We envision a future where gardens not only serve as havens of beauty and tranquility but also play a crucial role in supporting the overall well-being of our planet

Ulyana founded Bloom Botanical Design in 2015 with the desire to make a tangible impact in her community. She has over 20 years of experience in landscape design and construction.

Born in Toronto,Canada, she began her botanical design journey in San Diego, CA, where a plant identification class first captured her imagination. She was taken by the prospect of meaningful work that combines her love of design and her passion for environmental studies. Ulyana has an Associate Degree in Landscape Architecture from Mesa College and she specialized in Sustainable Urban Landscaping at the Cuyamaca College School of Horticulture.

After relocating to Seattle from San Diego, she completed the WSU Master Gardener training and has provided outreach and education through the Master Gardener program for over ten years. Having studied and worked in various regions, she has a diverse perspective and cares deeply about protecting our local ecology.

Ulyana continues to learn and loves expanding her plant knowledge and expertise. When she’s not at work you’ll find her in her test garden, cooking for family and friends, hiking, camping or making lists of where to go camping and hiking.

Originally from Brazil, Junia Ribeiro brings a lifetime of passion and experience to her work in gardening. “It feels like I’ve been gardening for 100 years—and I still have so much to learn,” she says with a smile.

Her journey through the world of horticulture has touched nearly every corner of the field: from working the cash register at a nursery, to propagating plants in a greenhouse, volunteering for the San Francisco arboretum, installing irrigation and lighting systems, and leading full-scale garden designs and installations. She’s loved every minute of it.

Formally trained in horticulture, Junia ran her own successful garden business in the Bay Area for 18 years. Now based in Seattle, she continues to share her deep knowledge and joy for plants through volunteer work at the UW Center for Urban Horticulture and the UW Farm.

When she’s not digging in the soil, you’ll likely find her relaxing in a hammock, soaking in the beauty of her own garden.

Kaoru “Kay” Schorn is a Japanese native who believes in craftsmanship. Growing up, she observed her father, an avid gardener, building a waterfall and ponds in their backyard and attending meticulously to his dream garden with pride and joy.  Kaoru was brought up to appreciate nature and craftsmanship from early age and learned how a space you create can emotionally and psychologically affect people.

The pursuit for creating beautiful and functional space continued to Cornish College of the Arts where she earned a BFA in design.  In her 20s, she was immersed in the wonderful world of Japanese landscapes, ceramics, calligraphy, flower arrangement, textiles, cooking and poetry through Japanese tea ceremony lessons, and she eventually obtained the associate teaching degree.

After a decade of being a stay at home mom, Kaoru began her journey to combine her two passions; gardening and design.  She started taking classes at South Seattle College in 2021 towards the Landscape Horticulture degree. Her goal is to achieve functionality, sustainability and beauty in a space that people can appreciate in their everyday lives.  Kaoru is LEED accredited.

Kaoru loves cats and collects cat objects.
